low and Mr. Massey in for tea. Mr. M
and Miss Whitelow had been at Port Arthur
so were late getting here.

Jan. 23, 1913

Mrs. Murdoch, Mrs. Carter, Mr.
Carter and I went up to The Huts
for the day. It was lovely and fine
and not too warm. Went by train to
end of line and then had quite a
climb. The Huts are such artistic buildings
and the tree ferns so beautiful. Had lunch
about one. It consisted of chops, tomatoes, salad
dressing and tea with bread and
butter and cake for finish. Just sat
around and rested until about four.
Had afternoon tea, then started for
home. Got home tired and dusty but
had such a good time.

dinner. We left Hobart at eight
o'clock reaching MacQuarie Plains
about eleven. Sir Philip met us at
station in motor. Got to the home in
time for morning tea. Walked around
the estate before dinner. I walked with
Sir Philip and enjoyed talking to him
very much. Dinner at one. I was guest
of honor and went in on Sir Philips
arm. The toast was given to "our Canadian
friend." I dressed up in Sir Philips gown
and cap and raised a laugh by the
way I bowed. Went for another walk
around the orchards and gardens in
afternoon. Loads of flowers of all kinds
also fruit. Had afternoon tea then Sir
Philip took us to station again. In all
a delightful day. Got back to Hobart in
time for supper real tired. Mr. Massey
was at Port Arthur L1 and L2 so he
got home shortly after I did. Gave an
interesting account of what he saw.
