One hundred years ago, Georgie G. MacGillivray traveled to Tasmania with her sister, brother-in-law, and their two children. She would be nanny to the family while James William Fraser served as engineer to a hydro-electric plant project. I will post entries coinciding with their 100 year anniversary. Journal entries will begin August 3, 2012. Prior to that I will post background information on Georgie, James, other family members, and related topics.

What's in a name...?
As the journal cover confirms, our heroine was known as Georgie. The author of HISTORY AND STORIES OF SPRINGVILLE, PICTOU COUNTY, NOVA SCOTIA also calls her Georgie. Oh, but the geneaology records are way more complicated. Georgia, Georgiana; McGillivray, MacGillivray; Fraser, Frazier. Piecing together her biography will be no easy task!

A Portrait of the Author
This photograph was found tucked in the journal. I think it was taken in the 1940s. Georgie would have been in her early sixties. She was about 34 or 35 when she departed on her journey to Tasmania. Next post will add more information on Georgie.
