One hundred years ago, Georgie G. MacGillivray traveled to Tasmania with her sister, brother-in-law, and their two children. She would be nanny to the family while James William Fraser served as engineer to a hydro-electric plant project. I will post entries coinciding with their 100 year anniversary. Journal entries will begin August 3, 2012. Prior to that I will post background information on Georgie, James, other family members, and related topics.

She's packing...or was 100 years ago....
August 3rd is quickly approaching - and that is the 100th anniversary of the first entry in Georgie's Journal. Unfortunately we'll find her in Wellesley, MA on her way to Boston. I have absolutely no information as to what she was doing there or how long she'd been there. I can't find her in the Massachusetts census records. Actually, her entries will be rather boring the first several days, but they do become much more interesting! At least I have been able to track down many of her companions, with a fair amount of certainty, thanks to Frank W. Calder's 1992 History and Stories of Springville Pictou County, Nova Scotia. (This volume came from my mother, but I have no memory of how or why she had it, or how it ended up with me!) This puzzle is still a learning experience for me. I now know I have dozens of second cousins here there and yon. Maybe some of you older first cousins will remember a tidbit that you can share to help me along.

August 12, 1912
Hugh had to go to Caledonia
so I drove to Bridgeville with
him. In the afternoon Mr.
Kirken came in and stayed for
tea.
(Note: This is probably Hugh Chisholm; Mr. Kirken was a local school teacher.)
